Royal Haskoning announces acquisition of maritime ports & shipping specialist Ocean Shipping Consultants Limited. Maritime engineering and environmental consultancy Royal Haskoning announces today that it has acquired the independent maritime economics consultancy Ocean Shipping Consultants (OSC). The acquisition will strengthen Royal Haskoning’s maritime and waterways business by adding this important element of forecasting into its UK and international service portfolio.
Formed in 1985, OSC is highly regarded throughout world port & shipping markets. Its brand is synonymous with high-quality independent market analysis across all international shipping sectors, including: crude carriers, product tankers, dry bulk carriers, container ships, gas carriers, reefer ships, ro-ro vessels, cruise ships, ferries, self-unloaders, general cargo, and offshore vessels. The company publishes in-depth, analytical market reports on all aspects of international trade, shipping and ports, and these continue to be an invaluable source of market information, intelligence & forecasting for its large and diverse customer base, which includes the world's major shipping companies, ports, financial institutions, shipyards, commodity traders, and equipment manufacturers.

All OSC’s staff, including its directors Andrew Penfold and Steve Hanrahan, will transfer to Royal Haskoning’s Chertsey offices.
OSC director Andrew Penfold said: “Joining Royal Haskoning is the beginning of an exciting new era for OSC and a move which we heartily embrace. There is great synergy between our two companies both culturally and professionally, and we are confident that by combining our experience, skills and knowledge, both OSC and Royal Haskoning clients will benefit from an amplified service provided by some of the very best maritime engineering and shipping economist experts in the world.
Commenting on the acquisition, Royal Haskoning’s Maritime director Simon Harries, said: “This an extremely positive development for both Royal Haskoning and OSC. We were aware for some time that we wanted to enhance the analytical element of our maritime consultancy and the acquisition of OSC has come at a very good time. Bringing together OSC’s expertise in shipping and port development economics with Royal Haskoning’s strong maritime portfolio means we can provide our clients with an augmented port development service.”
“Combining OSC’s expertise, experience and exemplary track record with our own, means we can advise our clients much earlier in the port development process, where important decisions are made surrounding the location, viability and feasibility of a proposed port development - and where accurate information from a trusted source is invaluable.”
Royal Haskoning and OSC have already partnered on a number of client projects and this has proved highly beneficial for the clients concerned.
Simon continues: “We now look forward to providing our clients - past, present and future - with an ongoing capability that offers multidisciplinary maritime and port development services from economic advice, market research and site selection, through planning and consents, design and master plans, to procurement, construction and facility start up.”
