Machilipatanam is located midway between Kakinada Port to the north and Krishnapatnam Port to the south where there is a proposal to create a deepwater port. The principal Hinterland of Machilipatnam will cover the central and southern portions of Andhra Pradesh, border areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
Maytas had appointed Royal Haskoning to undertake a Rapid Assessment Study on the development of the deepwater port at Machilipatnam.
